Ruokokerttunen

English text is the bottom of Finnish text.

Sedge Warbler is a beautiful and interesting little bird, but it's not a colorful and its song is a little bit boring. These photos I took 10.5.

There is one photo, where we can see the bird's feathers. It seems that the feather on the left side is  worn, but I am not sure about that. Bird ringers know how to determine the age of the birds based on the condition of the feathers. Feathers, however, is not the only determinant of age. I am not enough acquainted how to determine birds sex and age.

  1. As you say, a bird in the hand can be sexed and aged when the field observation often does not yield such secrets. Great series of images showing the bird in its habitat. Lots of subtlety in these shots.

  4. I really look forward to the Sedge Warbler returning here in the Spring. It's always a challenge to get a picture atop the reeds and with no obstructions.

    1. Hello Adam. Thank you for your comment. If the wind blows, so reeds are always in front of the Sedge warbler... It is a really challenge to get a good photo.

    1. Hei Maarit. Kiitos kommentista. Täällä päin (Viikin ruovikoissa) ruokokerttuset pitivät keväällä taas sitä oma kuuluvaa konserttiaan. Niitä ei voinut olla kuulematta ja näkemättä :)
