Lintujen pahin vihollinen - The worst enemy of birds...

English below

Ikävä oli lukea uutisista, että jotkut olivat pelotelleet Viikin merikotkia dronella. Nyt on Helsingissäkin pakkanen. Merikotkilla on jo kuulemma munia. Kun hautova emokin pelotellaan dronella pois pesästä, munat kylmettyvät pakkasessa. Toisekseen, varikset käyvät nappaamassa merikotkien munat, jos ne jättävät pesän hetkeksikään. Merikotkien pahin vihollinen on ihminen.

Kyhmyjoutsen. Mute swan.

Tämän postauksen kuvat otin maanantaina Vanhankaupunginkoskella ja Vanhankaupunginlahden suojelualueella. Keskelle suojelualuetta on tehty lapsille kiva leikkipaikka.

In the middle of the conservation area is a nice playgroud for childrens.

Katkenneessa oksassa kasvaa valkoinen, kiintoisan näköinen sieni.

In a broken branch grows a white, interesting-looking mushroom.

Nuori merilokki. Young Great Black-backed Gull.

Isokoskeloita. Goosanders.

Valkoinen ei ole lunta. Se on kosken kuohujen vaahtoa. The white is not snow. It is a white-water foam.

I was sorry to read news that some had been intimidating the Helsinki White-tailed eagles with drone (I wrote about these eagles in my last post). The White-tailed eagles have already eggs. Now there is a frost in Helsinki. When the eagles are intimidated by a drone from the nest, the eggs will be destroyed in freezing temperature. Secondly, the Crows will take the eggs of eagles, if eagles leave the nest. The worst enemy of Eagles is man. Right now the eagles are back in their nest.

These photos I shot in Monday in the conservation area of Vanhankaupunginlahti and in the area of rapids.

  2. Hello Anu, The swan is beautiful and I love seeing the Goosanders. Lovely series of photos. I wish the person with the drone would be caught, no one should harass the eagle or any bird on their nest. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend. PS, thank you for visiting and commenting on my blog.

  5. That's bad news about drones Anu. You don't say if the disturbance is aimed at the eagles because they are not welcome by some or if it photography or just ignorance> Whatever it is very bad and I hope the Finnish authorities can make it stop.

  6. I really hope the authorities can fine the culprits, confiscate their drones, ban them from ever having one again, and impose serious fines. What idiots.

  7. Kiva leikkipaikka. Valkoinen "karva" puussa, näyttäisi olevan hiusjäätä;-)

    1. Hei Anne! Kiitos tuhannesti tästä tiedosta. En muista koskaan ennen nähneeni hiusjäätä. Googletin heti hiusjään. Mielenkiintoinen ilmiö.

  8. Those drones are horrid. Ignorant people around the world are harassing wildlife.
I love your birds. We have mergansers, too. Not now, though. We're pretty frozen in...

    1. Hello. Thank you for letting me know about hairice. I have not seen it before. Also Anne told in her comment, that it is hairice. Hairice is an interesting natural phenomenon.

  12. That is so very sad about the sea eagles ... the drone operator should be caught and punished somehow, but I suppose that will not happen. I don’t understand how people can behave like that, but such disrespect for nature happens here too. .... your winter pictures are beautiful.....
