Porkkala ja haahkat - Porkkala and eiders

 Ensin. First.

Vaihdoin tietsikan yli kuukausi sitten.

I started using a new computer more than a month ago. Suddenly about 2 weeks ago, I was no longer able to comment on my own blog, nor the blogs of others. Google will no longer be able to identify my profiles and therefore google prevents me from commenting. I have sent numerous requests for help to Google and Blogger. I'm so sorry I can't comment on your blogs now.

Postaan tässä viikon takaisia kuvia Porkkalasta.

I took these photos in Porkkala a week ago.

Pronssikautisia muinaishautoja, joilla on joskus muinoin käynyt haudanryöstäjiä. Hautoja on kaivettu haudan keskikohdista.

Bronze Age ancient tombs that have sometimes been visited by grave robbers. Graves have been excavated from the centers of the grave.

Porkkalanniemi is a peninsula in the Gulf of Finland. The shortest distance to Estonia is 36 km. The area was a militaristically important area during World War II. The Soviet Union took over Porkkalanniemi in September 1944. Almost 10 000 residents and over 8000 domestic animals were evacuated from the Porkkala region. After Septemper 1944 Porkkala region was a closed area to Finnish people. Porkkala was returned to Finland in January 1956.

Porkkala was a national park during 1938 - 1944, but the national park has not been re-established. A national park is currently being planned for Porkkalanniemi.

Porkkalanniemi is one of the best migratory bird watching areas in Finland.
