Merikotkien aamu - White-tailed eagle's morning

Eilen aamulla heräsin jo ennen klo 4, jotta ehtisin Viikkiin lintuilemaan ajoissa. Pikkaisen klo 4 jälkeen menin parvekkeelle. Linnut lauloivat upeasti. Yhtäkkiä huomio kiinnittyi johonkin valtavaan ja sen liikkeeseen. Pihatontilla autohallirakennuksen edestä nousi ilmaan valtava lintu autohallin katolle. Se häipyi näkökentästäni, koska rakennus on näköyhteyden edessä. Olin äimistynyt ja mykistynyt. Se oli merikotka. Merikotka pihamaalla.

En tiedä nousiko se maasta, aidan päältä, puusta vai lensikö se vain matalalla kunnes nousi autohallin päälle. Jäikö se autohallin päälle? Todennäköisesti se jatkoi matkaansa viereisille pelloille ja joen varteen. 

Kiirehdin sitten Viikkiin. Pelloilla ja metsässä lintuja oli paljon. Mutta, mahtava yllätys jatkui, kun huomasin lahdella merikotkan ruokailevan maassa. Katselin sitä pitkään, kun se söi rauhassa. Varikset kärkkyivät jätepaloja.

Uskomaton merikotkien aamu! Ensin pihamaalla merikotka havainto ja sitten Vanhankaupungin lahdella sain hienon näköhavainnon ruokailevasta merikotkasta! Nämä kuvat otin tuosta ruokailevasta yksilöstä. Kuvat saa isommaksi klikkaamalla hiirellä jotakin kuvaa.

Tämän kevään ja alkukesän aikana olen nähnyt parvekkeeltani kolme kertaa merikotkan kaartelevan korkealla Viikin peltojen yllä. Mutta, toissa yönä se oli pihamaalla ja minä katsoin sitä parvekkeelta alaspäin. Kaikki tapahtui siinä niin nopeasti. Vanhankaupunginlahden harmaahaikaroitahan Viikinmäellä näkyy jatkuvasti, kun ne lentävät joko lahdelle tai sieltä pois kohden jokea. Ei ollut tullut mieleeni, että näkisin merikotkan pihallani. Kannatti herätä yöllä! Mittasin eilen illalla kansalaisen karttapaikassa Klobbenin ja kotini välisen etäisyyden. Se on noin 2 kilometriä.

Luonto-opas ja kirjailija Eero Haapanen kirjoitti Tringan verkossa, että Klobbenilla pesivän merikotkaparin mukana kyseiselle alueelle saapui myös nuori (2kv) merikotka. Pesivä pari on saanut kolme poikasta. Näiden merikotkien lisäksi ko. alueella on havaittu muitakin merikotkia. Eero Haapasen mukaan merikotkia on siellä nyt havaittu parhaimmillaan kuusi. Mutta, siellä pesii vain tämä yksi pari, jolla on nyt kolme poikasta.

 

Island Klobben

Edelleen em. Haapasen kirjoituksen mukaan Klobbenilla on 37 harmaahaikaran pesää, merimetsoilla 15 pesää ja tämä yksi merikotkien pesä.

Yesterday morning I woke up at night before 04.00 am. Little bit after 04.00 I went to the balcony. The birds sang wonderfully. Suddenly, my attention was drawn to something huge and its movement. On the yard, a huge bird was raised in front of the garage building to the roof of the garage. It's flew out of my sight because the building was front of my line of sight. I was astonished. It was a White-tailed eagle. A White-tailed eagle in the yard.

I don’t know whether it rose from the ground, from the top of the fence, from the tree, or did it just fly low until it got on top of the garage. Did it stay on the top of the car hall? Most likely, it continued its journey to the nearby fields and the river.

Then I’ll hurry to the nature reserve area of Viikki. This nature reserve area is located by the sea. There's a bay and a small island called Klobben. The great surprise continued as I noticed a White-tailed eagle eating on the shore. I watched it for a long time. Incredible White-tailed eagles morning!

First in the yard a White-tailed eagle sighting and then in the bay I got a great sight of the dining White-tailed eagle! These are the photos I took of that eagle on the shore.

During this spring and early summer I’ve seen from my balcony three times White-tailed eagle curving a high above a fields of Viikki. But, the night before last, it was in the yard. There can see a lot of Grey herons in Viikinmäki (the place I live) when they fly either to or from the bay towards the river. But, I never thought I’d see a White-tailed eagle in the yard. It was worth waking up at night! The distance between island Klobben and my home is about 2 kilometer.

Wilderness guide and birder Eero Haapanen has written that a young (2 cy) White-tailed eagle also arrived in the area with a pair of White-tailed eagle breeding at Klobben. The breeding couple has had three chicks. In addition to these White-tailed eagles, other White-tailed eagles has been seen in the area. White-tailed eagles have been seen in a total of six. There are in the island Klobben 37 Grey heron’s nest, 15 Great cormorant’s nest and this one nest of White-tailed eagle.

Helsingin merikotkat - Helsinki White-tailed Eagles

Sääennuste lupasi torstaille jopa aurinkoista. Lähdin siis Vanhankaupunginlahdelle katsomaan merikotkia (Haliaeetus albicilla)  ja isokoskeloita. Mutta, aurinko ei näyttäytynyt. Oli pilvistä ja räntäsateista.

Vanhankaupunginlahdella on Klobben niminen saari, joka on ollut vuosia harmaahaikaroiden asuttama. Tänä vuonna merikotkapari otti yhden harmaahaikaroiden pesistä omikseen.

Nämä merikotkat ovat kuuluisia, koska tiedotusvälineet kertoivat niiden muuttaneen keskelle Helsinkiä. Ihmiset käyvät päivittäin valokuvaamassa näitä merikotkia.

Jotkut lintuharrastajat sanovat, että nämä ovat nuoria merikotkia, eivätkä ne siten varsinaisesti pesisi tänä vuonna. Nyt ne vaan ikään kuin harjoittelevat pesimistä.

Varikset kävivät vähän väliä katsomassa kotkia hyvin läheltä. The Hooded Crows visited curiously near the eagles.

Lintuharrastajat ovat myös kertoneet, että todennäköisesti merikotkat ja harmaahaikarat kykenevät yhteiseloon saarella. Harmaahaikarat eivät ole vielä palanneet etelästä.

The weather forecast promised that thursday will be even sunny. So I went to the Vanhankaupunginlahti. Vanhankaupunginlahti is a part of European Union’s Natura 2000 program and it is a very important bird area. But, there were no sunny. It was cloudy and rainy.

The island of Klobben is in Vanhankaupunginlahti.  Klobben is an little island that has been inhabited by Grey Herons for many years. This year the White-tailed eagle couple moved to a one nest of Grey herons.

These White-tailed Eagles (Haliaeetus albicilla) are famous because the media told that they moved to the middle of Helsinki. People go daily to photograph these Eagles. Some birders say that these are young White-tailed Eagles and therefore they did not really nesting this year. Birders have also told that most likely these eagles and herons are capable of coexistence on the island. The Grey herons have not yet returned from the south.
