Ennen myrskyä - Just before the storm

 English below

Jouduin tihkusateeseenkin. Kuvia en ottanut montakaan.

Aamu oli petolintujen aikaa. Näin merikotkan, ruskosuohaukan, kanahaukan, tuulihaukan ja nuolihaukan. Muista linnuista mukavin havainto oli iso joukko jouhisorsia. Kaksi jalohaikaraa seisoi kaislikon suojassa ja otin niistä muutaman kuvan.

On Thursday morning I went to Viikki nature reserve area to birding. At first the weather was tolerable, but soon the gusts of wind escalated and also the rain clouds arrived. Started drizzle. I didn’t take many photos.

It was a time for birds of prey. I saw White-tailed eagle, Western Marsh harrier, Northern Goshawk, Common kestrel and Eurasian Hobby. The most pleasant sighting of other birds was a large group of Northern pintail. Two Great White egrets (Ardea alba) stood in the shelter of the reeds and I took a few photos of them.

Hailuodon länsirannalla - Westside of island Hailuoto

 Englis below

Edellisessä postauksessa kerroin patikoinnista Hailuodon pohjoisrannalla. Eräänä toisena päivänä kävelin Malla-koiran kanssa Hailuodon länsirannalla. Tässä postauksessa on kuvia länsirannalta Pajuperältä. Pajuperällä on myös suojeltu hiekkadyynialue.

Hailuodon eteläpuolella, Pöllän lentokentällä, oli kolme kurkea. Lentokenttä on pienlentokoneille. Kurjet ovat mahtavan isoja lintuja.

The southside of island Hailuoto is an Hailuoto airfield for the small aircraft. One morning I saw there three Common Crane.

Pöllän ja Sunikarin välisellä alueella metsässä näin nuolihaukan.

In the forest between Pöllä and Sunikari I saw an Eurasian Hobby (Falco subbuteo).

In the last post, I told about hiking on the northern side of island Hailuoto. One other day I walked with Malla dog on the west side of Hailuoto. This post contains photos of the west side. The place is called Pajuperä. Pajuperä also has a protected sand dune area.

Merikotkien aamu - White-tailed eagle's morning

 English below

Eilen aamulla heräsin jo ennen klo 4, jotta ehtisin Viikkiin lintuilemaan ajoissa. Pikkaisen klo 4 jälkeen menin parvekkeelle. Linnut lauloivat upeasti. Pihatontilla autohallirakennuksen edestä nousi ilmaan valtava lintu autohallin katolle. Se häipyi näkökentästäni, koska rakennus on näköyhteyden edessä. Olin äimistynyt ja mykistynyt. Se oli merikotka. Merikotka pihamaalla.

Uskomaton merikotkien aamu! Ensin pihamaalla merikotka havainto ja sitten Vanhankaupungin lahdella sain hienon näköhavainnon ruokailevasta merikotkasta! Nämä kuvat otin tuosta ruokailevasta yksilöstä. Kuvat saa isommaksi klikkaamalla hiirellä jotakin kuvaa.

Pesivä pari on saanut kolme poikasta. Näiden merikotkien lisäksi ko. alueella on havaittu muitakin merikotkia.

Yesterday morning I woke up at night before 04.00 am. Little bit after 04.00 I went to the balcony. The birds sang wonderfully. Suddenly, my attention was drawn to something huge and its movement. On the yard, a huge bird was raised in front of the garage building to the roof of the garage. It's flew out of my sight because the building was front of my line of sight. I was astonished. It was a White-tailed eagle. A White-tailed eagle in the yard.

I don’t know whether it rose from the ground, from the top of the fence, from the tree, or did it just fly low until it got on top of the garage. Did it stay on the top of the car hall? Most likely, it continued its journey to the nearby fields and the river.

Then I’ll hurry to the nature reserve area of Viikki. This nature reserve area is located by the sea. There's a bay and a small island called Klobben. The great surprise continued as I noticed a White-tailed eagle eating on the shore. I watched it for a long time. Incredible White-tailed eagles morning!
First in the yard a White-tailed eagle sighting and then in the bay I got a great sight of the dining White-tailed eagle! These are the photos I took of that eagle on the shore.

During this spring and early summer I’ve seen from my balcony three times White-tailed eagle curving a high above a fields of Viikki. But, the night before last, it was in the yard. There can see a lot of Grey herons in Viikinmäki (the place I live) when they fly either to or from the bay towards the river. But, I never thought I’d see a White-tailed eagle in the yard. It was worth waking up at night! The distance between island Klobben and my home is about 2 kilometer.

Wilderness guide and birder Eero Haapanen has written that a young (2 cy) White-tailed eagle also arrived in the area with a pair of White-tailed eagle breeding at Klobben. The breeding couple has had three chicks. In addition to these White-tailed eagles, other White-tailed eagles has been seen in the area. White-tailed eagles have been seen in a total of six. There are in the island Klobben 37 Grey heron’s nest, 15 Great cormorant’s nest and this one nest of White-tailed eagle.

Joutomaan lintuja - Wasteland's birds

Englis below

Lähellä kotiani, Viikinmäen kallioiden välissä on joutomaata, jossa pesii muun muassa taskuja, kerttuja, tiklejä ja punavarpusia. Tänä vuonna siellä pesii tyllikin.

Common Ringed Plover/Tylli Little Ringed Plover/Pikkutylli

Valitsin sellaisia kuvia, joissa näkyy kallion upeat juonteet.

Northern Wheatear/Kivitasku

There is a wasteland in Viikinmäki (near my home) where are nesting a lot of birds like Sylviidae, Northern Wheatear, Whinchat, European Goldfinch and Common Rosefinch. This year there is nesting also Common Ringed Plover Little Ringed Plover. Little Ringed Plover is a wader, but it does nesting even in wasteland though the water is not very close.

These photos I shot about week ago (22.5). I chose photos that show the great lines of the rock. I love these rocks.
