Viiksitimali

English text is the bottom of Finnish text.

Lintuillessani viime sunnuntaiaamuna, sain kohdalleni onnenkantamoisen. Viikissä kävelytien viereisessä ruovikossa oli viiksitimaliparvi (Panurus piarmicus). Eikä mikään pieni parvi. Lukumääräksi arvioin 30, mutta todennäköisesti niitä oli enemmänkin.

Miksi viiksitimalihavainto on onnenkantamoinen? Siksi, etten välttämättä näe niitä edes joka vuosi. Toisekseen, minua ilahduttaa parven suuruus.

Viiksitimali on Suomessa verrattain uusi laji.

Laji on kuitenkin Suomessa vaarantunut.

Kuvat saa isommaksi klikkaamalla hiirellä jotakin kuvaa.

On Sunday morning I have had a good luck while I was birding at conservation area of Viikki. I saw the flock of Bearded Reedling. It was a big flock. I estimated about 30 Bearded Reedling, but most likely there were much more.

I have to tell you, that it was my lucky moment, because I might not be able to see Bearded Reedling even every year. Secondly, I am glad to see the magnitude of the flock.

The Bearded Reedling is a relatively new species here in Finland. It breeds in Asia and in many area of Europe. In 1986 and 1990 there arrived flocks of Bearded Reedlings. 1990’s the nesting rate increased. Now in Finland is estimated to nesting about 1000 pairs of Bearded Reedlings. The number of them is low. In Finland this species is vulnerable.

I watched the Bearded reedlings over one hour. Many joggers stopped to look at these birds.
Some people asked what birds they are. When I told that they are Bearded reedlings, some of them become delighted. They said that they have not seen these birds before. The area started to go in the shade and many of these birds began to fly away.

The Bearded Reedling is definitely one of my favourite bird in my Top 5. Bearded Reedlings are so beautiful and cute birds.

  9. You dont know it, but you are teasing me with this post. I have looked for this species dozens of times and always failed! I had an hour on a reserve in the UK in July - and although the species is regularly seen there, I failed to see it once more!! Oh well!

    Great pictures.

    1. Hello Stewart. I am so sorry because you failed to see Bearded reedlings. They are so hard to see. I think that the best time to see Bearded reedlings is autumn. I had a good luck when I saw that flock of Bearded reedling.
