Keltasirkku

Pitkästä aikaa eilen oli aurinkoista, joten otin kamerankin ulos mukaani. Kuvissa on keltasirkku (Emberiza citrinella/Yellowhammer).

Osa keltasirkuista muuttaa talveksi Keski-Eurooppaan ja osa niistä talvehtii Suomessa. Keltasirkut jäävät sellaisille ruokintapaikoille, joissa on tarjolla kauraa. Nämä keltasirkut kuuluivat isompaan parveen, joka oli eräällä ruokintapaikalla Savelassa. Omalla ruokintapaikallani ei ole kauraa.

Yesterday was the sunny day, so I took a camera with me when I went out. In my photos is a Yellowhammer. Part of Yellowhammers migrate to the Central-Europe and part of them wintering here in Finland. Yellowhammers eat oats, so they are feeding places where is oats. These individuals I saw in one feeding place in public park, not so far from my home.

Talvehtivat linnut ja Välimeren muuttolinnut

Joulu- ja tammikuussa ei ruokinnalla käynyt paljon lintuja. Ihan tammikuun lopulla siellä alkoi jälleen vilskettä. Birdlife tiedotti pihabongauksen tulosten yhteydessä, että ihmiset olivat havainneet tänä vuonna aiempia vuosia vähemmän lintuja. Minun ruokintapaikkani ei siis ollut ainoa hiljainen.

Vielä en ole lukenut mahdollisia selityksiä, miksi lintuja on ollut ruokintapaikoilla vähemmän kuin edellisinä vuosina. Toivottavasti kuitenkin linnut ovat selviytyneet pakkasista. Asiaan tullenee tietoa loppukeväästä, kun aletaan havaita pesintöjen määriä ja pesintöjen onnistumisia.

Kuvat ovat Lahdesta Radiomäeltä 22.1. Luulen, että Radiomäen ruokintapaikkaa ylläpitää Päijät-Hämeen lintutieteellisen yhdistyksen jäsenet.

Champions of the Flyway -kilpailu järjestetään jälleen Israelissa. Olen yrittänyt perehtyä ko. kisaan lukemalla nettisivuja, ja nyt kerron pääpiirteet siitä. Kilpailuun ilmoittautuneet joukkueet keräävät kukin rahalahjoituksia.  tapahtuman pyrkimys on saada lopetettua erityisesti Kreikassa tapahtuva laiton muuttolintujen tappaminen. Kreikassakin metsästetään pikkulintuja – välimerenkeittiöön. Suomessakin pesivät pikkulinnut, ja isommatkin, joutuvat välimeren maiden metsästäjien ansoihin. Kreikkalaisetkaan eivät metsästä lintuja nälkäänsä, vaan metsästys on enemmänkin jäänne vanhoilta, menneiltä ajoilta, jolloin metsästyksellä oli oikeasti keskeisenä funktiona ruoanhankinta.

Israelin rannikkoa pitkin lentää huikeat määrät muuttolintuja ja siellä lintuja voi todella nähdä. Suomen joukkue on The Arctic Redpolls. Joukkueiden keräämät varat menevät äärimmäisen tärkeään kohteeseen – kilpailu itsessään kai on enemmänkin leikkimielinen ja pääasia on kerätä huomiota ja varjoja linnuston suojeluun.

Em. tapahtumalle on tehty myös musiikkivideo. Kappale on Bill Thompsonin River of Birds in the Sky. Musavideolla on myös parin sekunnin pätkä, jonka Vilppu Välimäki (kuuluu The Arctic Redpoll –joukkueeseen) kuvasi tammikuussa Avescapesin järjestämällä Määrityspäivällä. Pätkässä auditoriossa istuva porukka (minäkin siellä mukana) huutaa: "I am a flyway champion"!

In December and January there were not a lot of birds in my feeding place. The end of January birds came back. Birdlife Finland reported, that in this winter there have been less birds than the previous years. Thus, my feeding place is not the only feeding place where have been less birds. 

Yet I don’t know why there have been lesser birds than previous years. I hope that the birds have survived during the freeze winter.

The photos are not taken in my feeding place. This feeding place is at Lahti, Radiomäki. I think that people from local Birdsociety feeding birds there. Radiomäki is a beautiful public park. The photos I took 22.1.

The Champions of the Flyway is different birdrace in Eilat, Israel. Birders from all over the world will participate by following events live online. There is the teams of birders. The Arctic Redpolls is the Finnish team. Others birders and other people can pick favorite team and donate money to the protection of birds. The money goes to the Birdlife Greece. Aiming is  helping them tackle the illegal killing of birds in their country. More than 1 million birds are slaughtered in Greece every year. The Champion of the Flyway is working to stop the illegal killings of birds along the Mediterranean flyway.

This year there is also music video. The song is River of Birds  by Bill Thompson. In this video is one second shot filmed in January at Helsinki in the birders event called Määrityspäivät. In that quickly shot people are in auditorium and they yell: “I am a flyway champion”!( I am also in that auditorium) (Blog by Bill Thompson: Bill of the Birds

Tammikuussa nähtyä

Tammikuussa ulkoillessani en pitänyt kameraa juuri mukana. En käynyt bongausreissuillakaan – paitsi kerran valkopäätiaista etsimässä, ja silloinhan en sitä nähnyt. Havainnot tammikuulta ovat siten tyypillisiä talven lintuja.

Haviksia kertyi vain 21: Varis, harakka, naakka, kesykyyhky, mustarastas, kanahaukka, punatulkku, talitintti, sinitintti, kuusitintti, hömötintti, töyhtötintti, puukiipijä, sinisorsa, vihervarpunen, viherpeippo, varpunen, pikkuvarpunen, korppi, käpytikka ja valkoselkätikka.

Kuusi- ja sinitiaiset kuvasin sunnuntaina ruokinnalla.

During the January I took only a few photos of birds. Once I tried twitched an Azure tit, but I didn’t see it. This individual have been here in Helsinki about two months. The Azure tit is very rare bird in Finland. Sometimes some individuals of Azure tits fly here from Russia, but they also will fly back as soon as possible.

In January I saw only very typical wintering birds. A species of birds was 21: Hooded crow, Eurasian Magpie, Western jackdaw, Domestic pigeon, Blackbird, Northern Goshawk, Eurasian Bullfinch, Great tit, Blue tit, Coal tit, Willow Tit, European Crested Tit, Eurasian Treecreeper, Mallard, Eurasian Siskin, European Greenfinch, House Sparrow, Tree Sparrow, Northern Raven, Great Spotted Woodpecker and White-backed Woodpecker.
